From the desk of..

President Terry Mangum

I am extremely humbled and honored at the demonstrated confidence shown to me and the support given to me in my quest to become your State President.  I am truly grateful.

On behalf of the North Carolina State Lodge, and personally, I would like to thank Triad Lodge #79 for hosting and providing us with an excellent Fall Board Meeting and State Conference in Greensboro. I also want to express our appreciation to National President Chuck Canterbury for joining us throughout State Conference.

I congratulate Secretary Tim Brewer, Treasurer Doris Kirby, Chaplain Phil Wiggins, 2nd Vice President Buddy Moretz and Sergeant-At-Arms Ricky Parks on their re-election to the State Lodge Executive Board.

I also congratulate our new Vice President Randy Hagler on his election. During his tenure as our National Trustee, Randy was an outstanding representative for the State Lodge on the National level and well respected by the National Executive Board and other National Trustees.

Our new National Trustee is Dennis McCrary.  I congratulate Dennis on his election and welcome him to the Executive Board. Dennis and I have served together on previous Executive Boards and I know he will serve us well.

As most of you know, Chairman of the Trustees Mike Calfee elected not to seek re-election to that office.  I congratulate the new Chairman of the Trustees P.T. Williams on his election and welcome him to our Executive Board.  Additionally, I thank Brother Mike Calfee for the many years of dedicated service he has given to the State Lodge. I wish my Brother and his family the best in all of his future endeavors.

Additionally, I would like to thank President Don Penix for his eight years of exemplary service as our State President. Don did an outstanding job at the helm of our State Lodge. I truly appreciate his demonstrated confidence and faith in me and his willingness to look to the future. He provided me with many opportunities to perform and learn the ropes, better preparing me for my new position. And I personally thank him for his guidance. The delegates attending our State Conference, by adopting a proposed amendment, added the position of Immediate Past President to our Executive Board. So my good friend and Brother will not be going anywhere he will continue to actively serve our State Lodge and the membership.  I welcome Don to the Executive Board and thank the delegates for their astute judgment in adopting this amendment.

I am very confident in the integrity, knowledge and talent of this Executive Board.  I look forward to working with and serving on this team during the next two years.  And with the dedicated assistance and cooperation of the State Trustees, we WILL have two more productive years for the North Carolina State Lodge.

As elected officers of the State Lodge, Executive Board members and State Trustees alike,  the Board of Directors, we must ALL remember that we are here and we exist to Serve and Protect our membership.

  • We will continue to work for our membership on the Legislative front on the issues that impact their benefits, quality of life and quality of employment.
  • We will continue to provide Legal assistance to qualifying members.
  • We will continue to prepare for the future for the time when we will provide Labor representation for our membership in North Carolina.
  • We will continue to seek out means of acquiring funds in order to keep our members contributions low for the provided benefits.
  • We will continue to work to improve communications to and from our membership.  I encourage each of you to provide your e-mail address to our State Office Manager Jean Novellino at ncfop@nc.rr.com. In addition to saving money over postage, it also allows us to exchange urgent information instantaneously.
  • We will continue to strive to grow our membership and new lodges as well as retaining current members.

By working together, we will continue to move our organization forward.

Again, thank you for allowing me to continue to serve you and the State Lodge. I look forward to working with you during the next two years. If you need anything, do not hesitate to call on me.
