Lynn Wilson began her law enforcement career with the Asheville Police Department on July 4, 1987, Independence Day, and was sworn in as a law enforcement officer on September 17, Constitution Day. During a career spanning more than three decades, Lynn spent the majority of her service in patrol while also taking on several specialized assignments.

From 1993 to 1996, Lynn served as a member of Asheville Police Department’s two-person Major Crime Scene Forensic Unit. In 1996, she made department history as the only woman among the first five officers promoted to the newly established rank of Master Police Officer. From 2011 until her official retirement in 2015, she served in the department’s Property and Evidence Unit. Although retired on paper, Lynn continued serving Asheville PD on a part-time basis until fully retiring in 2021.

Lynn’s commitment to the Fraternal Order of Police began almost as soon as her law enforcement career. At the first available meeting following her swearing-in, she joined the FOP on October 1, 1987. By 1989, she was serving as a Lodge Trustee. Over the years, she accepted increasing responsibilities within Asheville’s Lodge #1, serving as Chaplain, Treasurer, and Secretary. In 2002, she was formally elected Lodge Secretary, a position she has continued to hold for more than two decades. In 2022, she further expanded her service to Lodge #1 by volunteering to also serve as Lodge Treasurer.

At the 2016 North Carolina FOP Biennial State Conference, Lynn was elected State Secretary for the first time. Since then, the membership has repeatedly entrusted her with the responsibility of maintaining the records and supporting the administrative work of the State Lodge. At the 2026 Biennial State Conference, Lynn was once again re-elected by the membership, beginning her sixth term as State Secretary.

Beyond her duties as State Secretary, Lynn has served for several years on the North Carolina FOP Legal Aid Committee and previously served on the State Awards Committee. Her commitment extends to the National Fraternal Order of Police as well. During National Police Week each May, Lynn assists the Credentials Committee in preparing for and supporting the National Peace Officers Memorial Service on the grounds of the United States Capitol.

With nearly four decades of FOP membership, Lynn has demonstrated an enduring commitment to the Order and its members at the local, state, and national levels. Her re-election to a sixth term as State Secretary reflects the trust placed in her experience, dependability, institutional knowledge, and dedication to serving North Carolina’s FOP membership.
